PodCube™ - The Future, is Yesterday™

Hello! My name is Mason Amadeus. I’m a senior fellow at Authocracy.

I am an actor, audio engineer, and 3D artist/animator - you can see my Authocracy fingerprint on the 3D animated segments of Paragons: Age of Champions and, if you’re reading this from the future, many more assets and animations from our studio.

I am also one of the creators of PodCube™, and that’s what this post is really about!

WHAT IS PODCUBE™?

PodCube™ is a highly-produced, non-explicit, surrealist sketch comedy podcast. On the surface, it’s a collection of short sketches (5 - 10 minutes on average) featuring rich, immersive sound design and hilarious, absurdist comedy. It’s silly, uplifting, bingeable, and high-quality.

Just below the surface however, there is a lot more going on.

PodCube™ is the story of an uber-modern corporate tech giant harnessing the power of their limited, proprietary time-traveling technology to send audio recording devices (PodCubes) all across space and time and place. These PodCube devices capture high definition audio and broadcast it back to PodCube™ headquarters. The podcast feed is itself a part of the story; it is a curated collection of the most ‘interesting’ recordings, assembled by PodCube™ staff.

Underneath the absurd comedic veneer is an evolving, ambitious narrative universe. The story is slowly revealed through background details and recurring characters. It may be hard to believe - given that one of the episodes is a minute-long sketch about a man eating coins at a Matrix-themed wedding - but there is a richly detailed lore unfolding over time.

It’s just that you have to learn about this universe by listening to a grown man sob about returning an eleven-dollar chip bowl that he broke a promise to.

OKAY. WEIRD. WHY IS THIS AN AUTHOCRACY THING?

Yeah, I get it. I had to ask Laurens & Joe several times if they were absolutely sure about this.

It does make sense though!

Authocracy is creating extremely next-level art - from their beautifully illustrated books, to their depth and range of narrative in everything from stories to card games.

PodCube™ shares a similar commitment - we like to be a little bit ‘extra’ in the things we do. For instance, we’re developing a fart-based Dark Souls-like open-world game that we intend to release in a year because we made a sketch that referenced it. We also share a commitment to creating inclusive, wholesome content that anyone can enjoy. The only thing different about PodCube™ is its focus on pure silliness and comedy.

Working with Authocracy means we’ll be able to elevate our unconventional brand of storytelling and comedy to that next level. With this new partnership, we have big plans for PodCube™ - including extending it into other mediums and formats that may surprise even our most veteran listeners.

On top of that, the time-traveling, universe-jumping nature of PodCube™ means you may find some familiar worlds and characters cropping up!
